Billy Laville was a collective of singer songwriter in activity for a short period, they managed to get one album under their belt, the original first and last LP Les Vampires released on Organisation General Records for Christmas '24. They channel throughout this record a cartoonish yet true to life sense of Parisian murky degeneracy, one you might expect to experience past midnight behind closed velvet curtains. Still, this first and last effort on Organisation General Records, is pretty uplifting, a new strand of city-pop for enfants riches deprimes, you might say. Tracks oscillate between goofy humour and serious art rock, leaving just enough space for you to get dazzled by the relentless ear worms of melody and hooks on display here. Anonymity was for the band a mean to get the music out front, and get the project to shine for what it is and not what you might usually wish from a pop act like theirs. In our times of instant gratification and online addiction, though it might not have been their best option for success, it is actually a breath of fresh air to see and hear a project like Les Vampires. Not giving in to any fad and staying true to their words, with no regrets involved only dedication to their craft, the band throughout this record showcases their own unique vision. Now we only hope you appreciate as much as we did the results.
